Anyway, tonight was the expected peak of the Perseid meteor shower! So, we went and laid out on our driveway facing the constellation Perseus at 10 PM and just hoped we'd see some. And we did! I kept almost thinking I saw some, but that was probably a result of squinting and staring at the sky too long. Then, I really saw one! Except no one else did, so I wasn't quite sure it was a real meteor. Finally, we all saw one at the same time, so we knew we weren't imagining it.
Of course, this would have been more fun and meteor-filled, as well as less painful on the skull, had we been watching in a less urban area. Still, I'm happy I got to see some that weren't hallucinations! I think we were all a little surprised that you could even see any at 10PM with the suburb glow.
Obligatory link dropping!
Virtual Planisphere - I had to use the internet to find Perseus because we've lost our non-virtual planisphere somehow.
Also we saw a satellite, too. It looked like a star, but it moved in a straight line. It wasn't a meteor because it didn't have any fireball-ness.

Him: Is your cat black for a reason?
Me: Yeah.
